Hey all,
I hope you’ve all been able to catch some Olympic Baseball action on TV or by streaming it off the web.
Here are some nice shots of Lou Marson mixing it up in Beijing:

Here is an up close and personal look at the air brushed helmets we made for Baseball Canadas’ trip to Beijing.

Our buddies over at Voodoo came up with the concept.  Check out their other work here:

Olympic Baseball starts tomorrow, or tonight, or is it today?  I’m getting all confused with the time zones and the US television broadcasts of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Lou Marson, catcher for the Reading Phillies (AA Philadelphia Phillies), is representing the US and All-Star in Beijing.  Just a few days ago he had the chance to hang out with President Bush as the president visited several US Olympic teams, including our very own USA Baseball.

Also representing the US and All-Star is Taylor Teagarden (Oklahoma RedHawks – AAA Texas Rangers).  He’s sporting a shiny new MVP2000TT helmet.

Keep your eyes open for the Canadians as well.  They’re all decked out in All-Star from head to toe, and they have a spiffy new airbrushed helmet specially designed for the games by our airbrush artists at Voodoo.

All the best to the athletes at the Summer Games!

Shoulder Pad Design:

Greetings from Taiwan!  I’ve been over here for almost a week now.  It’s a bit odd being in a foreign country during the 4th of July.  I am over here working on some R&D with our main factory, who, incidentally, celebrated their 30th anniversary on July 4th!  It’s a great family business that we’ve been working with for over 27 years.  They make our chest protectors and leg guards… including the special stars and stripes gear we made for Varitek.  In fact, during the 30th anniversary celebration/banquet, they had a duplicate set of the stars and stripes gear on display.
So we couldn’t watch the Sox and Yankees live on the 4thof July… it was 3am the next day here when the game started.  But it was re-broadcast at noon, complete with Chinese commentary.  So at noon a bunch of us from the factory watched the game.  My mandarin Chinese is non-existent, so I couldn’t understand anything they were saying.  But as the commentators were chatting back and forth in Chinese during a close up of Tek’s stars and stripes gear, I heard them say “Captain America.”  I guess there is no translation for that!  Pretty cool.  Later, I learned that the commentators back home were saying the same thing about the special gear.

I also heard that at his first at-bat, Jeter asked Teksomething like “does Evil Knievel know you stole his clothes?”  To which Jason responded with a laugh.  Excellent.
As usual, check out some amazing photography and screen captures from the game at www.jason-varitek.com.  Here is a direct link to the gallery:

I also heard that the stars and stripes catcher’s gear will be handed over to MLB tomorrow to be posted on their auction site.  As soon as we find the link, we’ll post it.  Jason is donating the proceeds of this auction to Children’s Hospital in Boston.

Tek’s All-Star Gear takes a road trip to the Hall of Fame but he can’t part with his Baby!

Jason Varitek now holds the Major League record for no-hitters caught. Last night Tek was honored for his history-making 4th no-hitter caught. His All-Star catcher’s gear has been authenticated and is being sent to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

During the interview, Tek told the reporter that after they took his gear they asked him if they could take his All-Star catcher’s mitt (CM3000BT). He would not let them take it! Here is the expression on his face when he was asked to consider parting with his mitt.

The online auction for Varitek’s Mother’s Day gear recently ended.  There were 27 bids for the scarlet and pink chest protector, leg guards, and face mask.  The winning bid raised $2,575.00 for the fight against breast cancer.  All proceeds from the auction benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Here is the link once again:  http://redsox.auction.mlb.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=94332888&prmenbr=33338039&aunbr=94679598

Tek’s Memorial Day gear is still on the auction block.  Only 4 days left.  Take a look here:

FYI… the site manager for jason-varitek.com has just created a new gallery for all the special Holiday Gear that we are making for Jason.  Check there for shots of the Mother’s Day and Memorial Day gear and interviews with Jason about the charities he is supporting by auctioning off the special make ups!
Also, keep your eyes on the look out for new images in the jason-varitek.com gallery featuring some upcoming holiday gear.  Wink wink.

Last fall my father and I started talking with Jason Varitek about doing a few special designs.  We mentioned Mother’s day and Father’s day.  We told him we could make up some gear with pink trim to match the pink bats some players use on Mother’s day.  Likewise, we could do a baby blue trim for Father’s day.

A few weeks ago Varitek wore the special mother’s day gear.  It didn’t get a whole lot of visibility because Tek was in the bullpen the entire game.  Wakefield was pitching, so our buddy Kevin Cash was behind the plate (sporting our new knuckle ball mitt).  Here is a link to a shot of the pink gear.  You can scroll to the right to see more images and comments from Tek:

Last Monday, Memorial Day, Tek strutted across Safeco Field fully decked out in camouflaged gear in support of the men and women in our armed forces, both past and present.  It was pretty hard not to miss the camo gear.  The face mask pads, the chest protector, and the leg guards were all camo.  Here is a link to the first of many images in a gallery (again, you can scroll through the gallery to see many different shots of Tek in the camo gear):

We dropped off the camo gear to Jason at Fenway a few weeks ago.  Schilling was next to Jason when we pulled the gear out of the bag in the locker room.  They both went crazy when they saw the camo patterns.

The special gear is being auctioned off and the proceeds are going to various charities.  The Mother’s Day gear is going toward the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research, and the Memorial Day gear is going to benefit children who’ve lost a parent in the war.  You can place a bid on either set of gear at the following links:

Wait till you see the Father’s day gear…
